A man wanted in the mass shooting of five people, three of them fatally, in Memphis on March 26 took his own life after being located by police in Nashville Thursday.
“Authorities on scene say the U.S. Marshals tracked a wanted fugitive out of Memphis to the [La Quinta] motel,” according to WKRN.
The fugitive was 48-year-old Michael Lynn Tucker, who was on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s (TBI) “Most Wanted List.” He was reportedly convicted of first-degree murder in 2000, and released after serving several years in prison.
“As authorities ordered Tucker to come out of the room, he fired three shots at U.S. Marshals. No officers were hit, nor did any return fire. A Metro police SWAT team deployed a flash bang outside of the room Tucker was believed to be in, but no contact was made,” the report said.
Later, police entered the room of the motel to find Tucker with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) gave an update from the scene.
“After receiving no response from Tucker after numerous efforts to make contact, the door to the motel room was breached and a drone sent in. Tucker was found dead on the floor from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot,” the police department said in a tweet.

Tucker was facing multiple charges from the March 26 shooting, including three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of criminal attempt first-degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and possession/employ firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
