In what is being viewed as an attempt to counter the efforts of former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, a Republican former U.S. Senator from the Peach State has founded her own voter outreach group.
“Former Sen. Kelly Loeffler is starting a voter registration and outreach group called ‘Greater Georgia,’ in her first major public move since losing her Senate seat to Democrat Raphael Warnock in a Jan. 6 runoff,” Fox News reported Monday.
According to that report, Loeffler’s group will “mirror” Abrams’ “Fair Fight,” a group widely credited for Democrat gains in the state during the 2020 election cycle. That group, formerly chaired by Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), who unseated Loeffler in January, is under investigation for voter fraud.
Loeffler will be the chairwoman of “Greater Georgia,” which aims to combat the state’s Democrat machine by “registering ‘conservative-leaning’ voters, engaging low-propensity voters and strengthening election security.”
“Our state is greater – and our democracy is stronger – when everyone’s voice is heard, and that’s exactly what Greater Georgia’s work is about,” Loeffler said in a statement about the group.
“But for too many in our state, the importance – and even the sanctity of their vote – is in question,” she continued. ” That’s why we’re rolling up our sleeves to register conservative-leaning voters who have been overlooked, to regularly engage more communities, and to strengthen election integrity across our state.”
The group will also promote “election transparency and uniformity.”
Loeffler, reportedly once the wealthiest member of the U.S. Senate, will initially fund the group with a seven-figure investment.
Whether Loeffler will run for U.S. Senate again in 2022 remains to be seen. Her counterpart, former Republican Senator David Perdue, has filed the Federal Election Commission (FEC) paperwork required to run against Warnock, but has not officially announced his candidacy. Perdue lost to Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) on January 6.
Loeffler joins other Republicans in attempting to combat Abrams’ influence in the state.
A former Loeffler staffer launched a group called “Stop Stacey” at the beginning of February. That group is aimed at defending Gov. Brian Kemp (R), who will likely face off against Abrams again in the state’s 2022 gubernatorial election.
“Leaders of the new independent committee, known as ‘Stop Stacey,’ say they will build a ‘robust state and national fundraising operation’ in order to target Abrams with opposition research, digital ads and other paid media,” a Fox News report said at the time.
“Stop Stacey,” though, is less local than “Greater Georgia.”
It describes itself as “a national, grassroots organization of engaged conservatives who are committed to protecting our future from Stacey Abrams, her left-wing backers, and their radical, un-American agenda.”
